How much does it cost to get my Private Pilot License?

How long will it take to get my license?
That depends on you and your schedule. The more time per week you fly, the sooner and less expensive it will be. If you only fly twice a week, for example once on Saturday and once on Sunday, it will take approximately 6 months.
Can I use Tuition Assistance to pay for flying?
Currently Tuition Assistance is not available for use at the Travis AFB Aero Club.
What other licenses and ratings can I get above and beyond the Private Pilot Certificate?
In addition to the Private Pilot Certificate we also offer Commercial Pilot Certificate, Instrument Rating, Certified Flight Instructor Certificate, Ground Instructor Certificate and Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.
Do I have to pay for the training in advance?
No, you can pay for each lessons as you go. We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
Where is flight training conducted?
All flight training is conducted at the Rio Vista Municipal Airport (O88), located about 24 miles from Travis Air Force Base.
Do I have to be a member of the Travis AFB Aero Club to start lessons and/or to rent an airplane?
Yes, you have to be a member before starting flying lessons or renting a plane.
After I get my pilots license, can I continue to rent the airplane for personal use?
Yes, being a member of the club entitles you to use the airplane for recreational or personal use. You can even use the airplanes to go TDY if it is cost effective for your unit.
Can I take the airplane on a trip that is a week or two long?
Yes, for any flights that are scheduled to be gone over night, you will be charged a 2-hour per night minimum on the airplane.

How do I become a member and get started?
The first step is to submit your membership application packet via email or in person at our office. As a member, you’ll gain access to the online scheduling system where all flight reservations can be made.
How can I find out if I will like flying before I commit to starting lessons?
You can come into the Travis AFB Aero Club and request a Discovery Flight for $250. This is a one-hour introduction flight where an instructor will explain the basics and will let you fly the airplane.
Do I have to be member of the Travis AFB Aero Club to do a discovery flight?
No, this is a one-time introductory flight and membership is not required. You will have to become a member only if you wish to pursue flight training.
